How this estimate works
Measure each area, choose its shape and enter the soil depth. The calculator converts every measurement to SI units, adds the areas, then applies the extra-material percentage once to the project total.
Step 1
Measure
Use rectangle, circle, triangle or a known surface area.
Step 2
Add a buffer
Keep the base volume and extra material visible as separate numbers.
Step 3
Compare orders
Enter your own bag and bulk prices; the tool never invents current prices.
Worked examples
Metric lawn area
10 m × 5 m × 10 cm = 5 m³. With 10% extra, order 5.5 m³. At 50 L per bag, that is 110 full bags.
US rectangular area
12 ft × 9 ft × 3 in = 27 ft³, which is exactly 1 yd³ before any extra allowance.
Several small areas
Two areas needing 25 L each total 50 L, so a single 50 L bag is enough. Areas are summed before bags are rounded up.
Frequently asked questions
How much extra topsoil should I order?
The default is a visible 10% planning allowance, not a universal recommendation. Adjust it for measurement uncertainty, grading and supplier rules.
How many cubic feet are in a cubic yard?
Exactly 27 ft³. The calculator uses the exact conversion 1 yd³ = 0.764554857984 m³.
Is the estimated weight exact?
No. Moisture, composition and compaction change soil density. Use the density provided by your supplier whenever possible.
