About Topsoil Calculator

Topsoil Calculator is a free planning tool for estimating how much soil to order for lawns, garden beds and other landscaping projects. Add one or more areas, enter their dimensions and depth, and see the base volume separately from any extra material you choose to allow for.

Compare bagged soil with bulk delivery using your own prices, delivery charges and supplier ordering rules. Use US or metric units, estimate the number of bags and material weight, and save, share or print your plan.

How it works

Calculations run in your browser, with no account required. Volume is calculated from your measurements; weight estimates use the selected material density. For formulas, unit conversions, preset sources and assumptions, read the methodology.

What the tool does not do

It does not replace soil testing, engineering advice, drainage assessment or a supplier quote. Results are estimates based on the measurements and assumptions entered.
